Lost myself in that review. For a moment I forgot it was a review, and was surprised when it ended. I'm hoping that book/book on tape will be at CPL.

Doro, you mean the male teachers you worked with were afraid they might be accused of being witches? Tormenting their young students?

Fascinating stuff Patty. In 7th, maybe 8th grade I played the part of Abigail in a college production of "The Crucible". My parents really explained the history well.
The subject of girls that age needing that kind of attention was obvious to me as a middle school teacher too, and was a very justified fear of some of the male teachers that I worked with. The principle applies, though the end result is less barbarous.

Your review has encouraged me to read this book. I bought it a while ago, paged through it to admire the wonderful pencil drawings, but just hadn't gone back to read it. To tell you the truth, the novel is physically heavy, and I just haven't been willing to attempt to read it in bed. Now I'll sit up at a table because it sounds like a great read-and-look book.

I love drawing in pencil myself, and I appreciate not only Selznick's artistry but also the excellent quality of the illustrations as reproductions. Obviously, Scholastic didn't cut any corners in the production of this book. If only someone could invent weightless paper. Okay, I love my nook but it wouldn't work well for a book designed to be enjoyed page by page. Thanks, Patricia!

All parents like to think that they are able to aoffrd quality family time. And in fact, they can. Quality family time doesn't mean you have to spend money at all. Ever heard of a park? You can spend all day at a park or hiking a nice easy trail and only have to spend money on snacks if you stay all day. You may also need to pay for gas if you choose to go far from home. Most neighborhoods have wonder parks for family time and it doesn't cost you a thing! (except for tax money but that's a given when you live in America.) To agree with the original poster, despite the recession and current economic situation of most families, it looks like business as usual when it comes to families spending money on entertainment.

Monk: "Yuck! I believe we are hnkniitg more in terms of France than Cuba." I'd bet that the Cubans who went along with Castro were hnkniitg that, too. ;) As to the article, a good read, but unfortunately it's all old news to we hunting types (considering that it appeared in the NYT though, I guess it's not directed at us anyway!). These are literally the arguments we've been putting forth for years. I guess this guy hasn't had too many discussions with the "localvore" rank and file - they couldn't care less about these reasons that hunting goes hand-in-hand with their views. When you peel back some of their layers, you find the same old Earth First, "humans are evil" idiots underneath.

No enterprise is a bit more likely to succeed than one concealed in the enemy until it's ripe for execution.
It takes greater than capital to swing business. You have got to hold the A. I. D. degree to get by - Advertising, Initiative, and Dynamics.
